Sonography Educator - Ultrasound Programme Faculty

Duties: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join our team of specialists providing ultrasound education in a rapidly expanding distance learning programme.

Advanced Medical Simulation Online is an independent provider of distance learning medical education based in Cardiff, UK. Our Ultrasound Diploma course is accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME). Our Students have varied backgrounds and are based in the UK or overseas.

We are looking for an experienced and energetic sonographer who is passionate about education and training. We expect you to be an effective faculty member, providing the highest standard of Ultrasound education and training in our expanding programme, working harmoniously with other members of the team. The Sonographer will report directly to the head of Education and together with other members of the team is responsible for managing all aspects of the ultrasound education programme, in line with agreed aims and objectives.

Background and context


Cellesce is a Biotech micro-SME, founded in 2013 and built on biochemical and bioprocess engineering expertise from the University of Bath, and cell and organoid biology expertise from Cardiff University. Cellesce is currently developing and commercialising new technologies for applications in drug discovery and genetics research, and will expand the offering for personalised medicine and regenerative medicine in the future. Our focus is on the use of 3D cell culture, in particular the scaled up growth and expansion of organoids (3D multi-cellular structures that, when grown in vitro, can recapitulate a realistic in vivo micro-anatomy).



Job purpose


This post will be responsible for operating, and continuously improving the bioprocess. The successful candidate will be able to understand, modify and troubleshoot the bioprocess as a whole and also understand at depth and intervene on the individual process steps. The post will play a major role in the progression from medium scale to larger scale expansion including the attainment of quality standards and applying methods for continuous improvement. The candidate will regularly interact with partners from the pharmaceutical industry, the biotechnology industry and academia. The post holder will be able to utilise their bioprocess knowledge and apply it to organoid expansion, and will be able to contribute to an integrated plan that will focus on customer needs.

Person Specification








A minimum of a BEng degree in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, or bioprocess engineering





1-5 years experience working in biomanufacturing including experience in process monitoring and control


Working knowledge of GMP or equivalent ISO quality systems


Working knowledge of process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma





Ability to organise and prioritise own workload


Ability to organise and prioritise own workload


Basic leadership and mentoring skills


Ability to communicate with various stakeholders using a variety of methods


Excellent oral, interpersonal and written communication skills


Proficiency in practical bioprocessing skills


Proficiency in IT skills e.g. word, excel, gPROMS

Main duties and responsibilities


Responsible to the Lead Bioprocess Engineer.




Conduct the day-today operations of the organoid expansion process. Take a lead in the design and execution of the work plan. 




Liaise with colleagues in other departments to enable technology and knowledge transfer on a day-to-day basis.



Project management: e.g. timetabling and meeting project milestones; participating in regular discussions with collaborative partners. Liaise with key stakeholders.



External representation of the company e.g. by presentations or on a stand at conferences.  Occasionally travel alone and globally



Participate regularly in team meetings, and prepare and deliver presentations to project team, internal and external stakeholders or funders.



Assist with the supervision of technicians, placement students and PhD students.



Continually update knowledge and understanding in field or specialism to inform day-to-day activity.



Develop operations strategies to contribute to meeting the value milestones.
