Learna Ltd and the University of South Wales collaborate on an online Diploma in diabetes



The Postgraduate Diploma in Diabetes from the University of South Wales is one of the first online postgraduate diplomas in the world to be recognised by the International Diabetes Federation.

The course, delivered by the University of South Wales through, is in its fourth year, and annually attracts more than 100 healthcare professionals from across the globe. The diploma course is entirely online making it ideal for health professionals.

The postgraduate diploma is unique in that it can be completed in one year and students can progress on to a MSc which also can incorporate independent prescribing. Other specialty diplomas and MScs are offered in Endocrinology and Sports and Exercise Medicine.

The recognition of the Diploma in diabetes with Diploma MSc and the University of South Wales will be announced at the World Diabetes Congress in Melbourne on 2-6 December 2013.

Sue McLauglin, Chair of the Diabetes Education Consultative Section 2013-2015 said, “The University’s ongoing work to increase the reach and practice level of health care professionals, enables them to provide quality diabetes education, skills training and support to people with diabetes, their families and caregivers.”

The IDF has been leading the global diabetes community since 1950 - it is made of an alliance of over 200 national diabetes associations in more than 160 countries and is aiming at increasing public awareness of diabetes and encourage health improvement worldwide.

Dr Ruth Davis, Head of School of Care Sciences at the University of South Wales and tutor for the diabetes course, said: “It is a great honour to be recognized by the IDF for the quality and relevance of our course to health care professionals all over the world.”
