Business is blooming at Cardiff Medicentre

Cardiff Medicentre is experiencing an surge in demand for space from new and existing tenants.

The occupation level is now at 94% let, the highest its been for 10 years.

It is forecast that the level will rise even further over the next six months as businesses based here have expand and new start-ups move in.

In the last four months, tenants have recruited five full time and seven part time employees and there is a wealth of talented scientists operating out of the centre.  Many of their products are established in international markets and are at the forefront of developments.

Indoor Biotechnologies is one company.  It specialises in innovative products and services for investigating allergy and asthma and became a tenant 12 months ago.  It has chosen to relocate it's entire UK operation from Westminster to Cardiff.

Dr James Hindley, executive director of Indoor said: "We knew from the very beginning that Cardiff Medicentre would be  ideal  for us and it makes complete sense to run our  UK arm of the business from here. As a new life science operation, we've been supported every step of the way by the Medicentre team and we are delighted to have expanded so quickly".

Indoor Biotechnologies now takes up 1,182 sq ft of serviced laboratory and office space at the centre.  From there it markets a distributes its allergens detection kits and purified allergens, as well as providing allergen and biomarker testing services to biopharmaceutical companies and academic researchers across the world.

Other tenants at Cardiff Medicentre include the drug and alcohol testing company Cansford Laboratories and ultrasound training business Medaphor and the surgical specialists Asalus Medical Instruments.  Inquiries from potential new tenants are being received every week.

There is certainly no shortage of new start-ups looking to take up incubators space.  Life science contributes on its upward trend and, with the launch of the Welsh Government's Life Sciences Hub set for later this year, is marking our region out as a hotbed of innovation.
